The work has involved finding and promoting options for recovering renewable energy from wastewater and municipal solid waste, as a means of reducing pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from cities. Stephen has also served as a volunteer designing and building adaptive devices for the Tetra Society of North America, and as a coach and judge with Odyssey of the Mind. Stephen has also presented workshops and lectures on sustainability at the University of Victoria, Simon Fraser University, the University of British Columbia, Pearson College, the BC Sustainable Energy Association, and the Fraser Basin Council.

Born in Angola, Dr. Fernanda Oliveira practiced dentistry in Brazil and Canada before becoming a management consulting with a focus on change management, organizational development, capacity building, stakeholder consultation and engagement, mediation, and negotiation.

Fernanda’s strengths include engaging people to develop agreements that enable projects to become successful in the long term; uncovering the things that are important to all stakeholders through active listening; appreciating differences among individuals and mediating among apparently conflicting interests; communication; coaching; strategic thinking; problem solving; and an ability to systematically investigate the root causes of issues. Fernanda applies these skills at the beginning of projects to help clients and stakeholders identify their interests (for example, their aspirations and fears) regarding the outcome of the project. This process brings clarity regarding the true goals of the project to all stakeholders, and significantly increases the likelihood of the project’s success.

Fernanda is certified in Advanced Facilitation and Consultation, Negotiation, and Mediation through the Justice Institute of BC, and is fluent in written and spoken English, Portuguese, and Spanish.
